  • Q: What should I do if the check engine or service engine soon light is on?

A: The check engine light could be warning you of any number of issues ranging from an engine management system problem to incorrect fuel. If it comes on while you're driving, pull over when it's safe and if your engine is smoking or making strange noises give us a call. We won't be able to diagnose the problem over the phone, but we can advise you what to do next.

  • Q: Why does my engine keep overheating?

A: Overheating is usually caused by a problem with your car's cooling system, and it can be tricky to diagnose on your own. Left unchecked, it can even cause damage to your engine. If you notice your car's temperature gauge is reading high or there is smoke coming from your engine, you should give us a call.

  • Q: How often should I have my oil changed?

A: It's important for your car's fluids to be topped up and that your oil and oil filter are changed at the intervals the manufacturer recommends. At Cairns Total Auto Fix we're here to help you prevent a costly and inconvenient disaster. We make sure to only use the appropriate grade of oil and filter to your specific make and model of vehicle.

  • Q: Should I have my tyres aligned and rotated?

A: Yes, misaligned wheels can cause undue wear and tear and shorten the life of your tyres, steering and suspension components. At highway speeds, if you are experiencing your steering shake or your car tending to steer to one side, book in with us. A rotation will also ease the rate of wear on your tyres, so ask about a realignment and rotation next time you visit.

  • Q: What makes a car a write-off?

A: A write-off is when repairs are substantial enough that it could be cheaper to replace the car entirely. But before you commit to scrapping your car, come see us. With our years of experience and our upfront pricing, we might just surprise you with our affordability!
